Strength. Intelligence. Versatility. The future of furniture is finally here

In contemporary society, there seems to have been a shift towards the disposable: plastic utensils, Styrofoam coffee cups, lawn chairs, take-out containers, even patio furniture. We have all seen the sad sight of the discarded sofa awaiting pickup on the curbside — and how lonely it always seems! With products that break and wear down easily, customers are forced to buy new items with more frequency.

There is, however, one company that is bucking the disposable trend. By creating furniture that allows for repairs and pioneering innovative techniques to promote longevity, atelier ALINEA is on the forefront of modern living. They hold fast to the belief that furniture should always have a social context and bear evidence thereof.

Thus, the «Unistandardtisch», or «Unitable» is born. This unique piece of furniture can be used as a working desk, meeting table, or dining table. Its incredible strength comes from a new technique:a design feature called Multiplex Strut Support. It is a serious-sounding term that delivers some serious stability. The idea is similar to that of a beam in a half-timbered house: a bond of corrugated aluminum in-between two plywood sheets acts as a very sturdy, but lightweight tabletop. As a result, ultra long tables can be made with minimal materials and only two feet elements.

And yet, customers are not only looking for functionality, but aesthetic choices as well. That is why the «Unitable» has a choice of plywood, laminate or linoleum tops with a veneered edge and up to 13 feet (4 meters) in length. Ah, versatility — how we, the consumers, love having versatile features, and here they come in abundance: an adjustable height; a weight that is surprising light, despite the size, making transporting a breeze; and additions such as a CPU-holder, cable’s screen and a multipurpose shelf.

Intelligent design ensures that it is more than just a table, but a personal organizational and storage center. The «Unitable» employs a modular design that allows for integrated elements to be added or subtracted however the customer sees fit.
